**Plan of Action**

**Area of Interest**

I will be working with a fourth grade teacher and her class of twenty-five students creating a multiplication and division review unit as the class prepares for state testing in April. This unit will be three weeks in length. The students will complete a pre-test where they will demonstrate understanding of mathematical facts, concepts, principles and theories. The students will perform basic arithmetic functions in which they show their understanding of multiplication and division. The students will be able to recognize and use factors of a given quantity. The students will be able to multiply a two-digit by one-digit number and two-digit by two-digit number. The students will be able to make sense of a division problem with a remainder and without a remainder through practice.

The classroom teacher will teach the lessons and administer tests and quizzes to her students. The students will take daily multiplication fact quizzes and record their scores. There will be assignments with multiplication and division facts, activities online and in class activities where students will practice multiplication and division facts.

**Professional Goals**

I will use this portfolio to create a multiplication and division practice unit using local and state standards for a fourth grade classroom. The portfolio will include a pre-assessment and post-assessment to check for students understanding. Included in the portfolio will be assignments and activities to use in instruction of students. I will work with the classroom teacher on implementation of daily assignments and practice activities. After students complete the pre-assessment I will evaluate the work and make any necessary adjustments. The students will be able to solve multiplication and division problems through practice.

I will use this activity to become more aware of what fourth grade students multiplication and division abilities are and able to make necessary adjustments. To complete a practice unit that will help students practice their multiplication and division skills in preparation for state testing.

**What I Will Do**

I will research various types of assessments that are available to use with fourth grade students as they learn and review their multiplication and division skills. I will work with the classroom teacher looking at curriculum and tests that are in the curriculum. Search for online multiplication and division games then create a web page where I link the web games for student use. Write the assessment that will be administered at the beginning of the unit and the end to assess changes in mathematical skills over the three weeks. I will find multiplication and division pages and assignments that the students will complete over the time of the unit.

Assessment questions will be derived from problems found as practice for fourth grade students. Written practice will be from the district curriculum text and a timing test that will align with the assessment.

I will meet daily with the classroom teacher regarding work completed and sharing areas of strength and weakness noted on any of the student work. Also discuss any patterns of success or errors that are being made. I will prepare a summary of student work that will include a journal excerpt for the classroom teacher and parents.
